Hyde United 0 – 1 Northwich Victoria
A first half Jordan Williams strike was enough for Northwich Victoria to progress into the third qualifying round against Hyde United.
By Andrew Marshall (Non League Paper)
The striker found himself clean through on 24 minutes after a mix up in the defensive line for hyde, before running through and finishing well into the corner for the only goal of the game.
The visitors came into this game with an excellent record of 10 wins from 11, and looked the better side for long periods of the game. The front three of Williams, Iain Howard and Richard Bennett, terrorised the Hyde defence and dominating the first half through, with Howard nearly doubling the Vics lead with a rasping shot just before the break.
Tigers' boss Gary Lowe clearly gave the players the hair-dryer at the break as they began to press more and try to continue this run that had seen them win four in a row in all comps. Hyde legend Scot Spencer, who had managed back-to-back hat-tricks prior to today, crossed for his strike partner Liam Davies on the hour mark, but his free header was well saved by Mason Springthorpe in the Northwich goal.
The hosts continued to control the game late into the half, but a fantastic defensive display stopped any real chances, and the visitors held out to reach the next round.
