HYDE UNITED FC 2 - 2 COLWYN BAY

Excellent display secures point

HYDE UNITED FC 2 - 2 COLWYN BAY

This was as good as Hyde have played in any game for two or three seasons. The only thing missing was three points, but the large Thursday evening crowd of 316 walked away happy having seen an excellent, competitive game of football against two teams who like to play.

Hyde are starting to click, and there is a spirit which has been missing for a number of years. James Burke has taken to the Captains roll, and improved in the left back position in each game. Matt Dempsey looked assured at Centre Half next to the excellent Harry Coates, and Laurie Bell has stepped into the midfield roll along side Janni Lipka with an imposing air. The rest of the squad are built around this with energy and pace, and a forward in Matt Beadle who looks like he will score every time he gets infront of goal. He also adds a real focal point to the Hyde attack, bringing others into the game and linking the play to allow a flow and energy.

On to the game

Hyde started well and the opening 30 minutes had them largely in control. Colwyn have a good squad, and a player budget which is more than double the one at Hyde, which shows what a good side Hyde are turning into. Young Ryan White caused lots of problems on the left when he got the ball, and the midfield three for Hyde were able to play around the Colwny midfield, creating the best of the chances.

Colwyn looked to hit on the break, but Hyde have a bit more pace in defence since moving to a four, and on the two occasions Colwyn broke free, they were able to get back and clear the danger.

HT 0-0

The second half started with Colwyn looking to get closer to Hyde and play at a higher tempo. Hyde were keeping a careful eye on Scott Baker who is a real threat, and on 54 minutes he bared his teeth, with a fantastic turn and half volley from 25 yards which caught the Hyde keeper just off his line, and he was unable to stop it from bulging the back of the net. 1-0 Colwyn Bay

In the past we would expect heads to drop, but the positive spirit in the camp had Hyde on the front foot and pushing forward, driven on by Dempsey and Bell. On 58 minutes the Tigers drew level when a corner was knocked down to the penalty sport and smashed home by Matt Beadle to make it two in two for the prolific front man. 1-1. Six minutes later, Big Kamsuk forced an error when he won the ball and raced clear, cutting inside and firing a low shot into the bottom left hand corner of the Colwyn net. 2-1 Tigers.

The boys organised, and looked to see out a period of pressure from Colwyn, but a quick throw in and a cheeky trip on Laurie Bell allowed Chris Gahgan to run into the box without Bell marking him and side foot home the ball from 7 yards. 2-2

The remaining 25 minutes were all Hyde with chances for Pete Boyle (on for Big) and Beadle to win the game, and a fantastic free kick from Laurie Bell which clattered the upright in injury time with the keeper stranded.

FT 2-2

A point at home and four points over Christmas week set the Tigers up nicely for the fixture at Ewen Fields on the 2nd Jan 2017. If we can continue to develop, picking up all three points making it seven over the week, we will go into 2017 with some real optimism for what can be achieved in the remaining games of the Season.

No MOM as to many good performances, but special mention to James Burke, Matt Beadle, Laurie Bell and Ryan Ellison

ACADEMY: Well done to full time Academy players Nathan Edwards and Oliver Ford who joined Pete Boyle & Big Khamsuk in the squad. Oli came on to make his league debut replacing Janni Lipka on 85 minutes.
