Hyde take control under the lights

RAMSBOTTOM FC 1 - 3 HYDE UNITED FC

Due to suspension and Injury Darren Kelly had limited choices and looked to field a very different squad from the one that turned up to play the fixture abandoned due to a generator failure five weeks earlier. Ramsbottom on the other hand had all of their players back and available.

It looked like a tall order for a squad containing eight Academy players, and missing the likes of Paddy Miller, James Burke, Matthew Beadle and Saturdays MOM Janni Lipka, but it was the Tigers who were quickest out of the blocks and in control of the ball and the game.

Hyde set up in a 4-2-3-1 out of possession and a 4-3-3 when they had the ball. With Sam Fitton and Big Khamsuk playing in the deeper roll, and Pete Boyle in a more central midfield 10, they controlled play and were able to release the pace of Chris Sutherland and Jamal Banker on the flanks, with the quick and intelligent movement of Leon Osbourne in the centre.

The first chance fell to Big on 6 minutes, but he failed to keep his shot down, and Chris Sutherland was giving the Ramsbottom full back a torrid opening 20 minutes as he repeatedly got the ball down and drove in behind the Ramsbottom defence. On 20 minutes a great ball into the channel was pulled back and Big Khamsuk made no mistake hammering the ball home. 1-0 Hyde.

Ramsbottom grew into the game, playing a brand of direct football hitting the channels or the front man, but Hyde weathered a period of 15 minutes of pressure where they were sloppy in possession and went in at half time with a deserved lead.

HT 1-0 HYDE UNITED FC

The second half started in much the same way. Hyde were better in possession, and looked more threatening but a mistake at the back, with Ryan Ellison, who was outstanding throughout playing with a bad neck which needed treatment during the day before he declared himself fit to play, missing his tackle allowing Ramsbottom to square the ball for a simple tap in. 1-1. The lead lasted less than a minute. A mix up at the back for Ramsbottom and a half scrambled clearance which fell to Big Khamsuk who kept calm picking his spot and slotting home. 2-1 Hyde and Bigs 7th goal of the season.

That really was that. Ramsbottom looked a spent force, and the extra fitness work Hyde have been doing since November started to show as the took complete control of the game. On 35 minutes Jamal Banker picked up the ball on the left and fired an unstoppable shot from 25 yards into the far corner of the Ramsbottom goal to make it 3-1 to the Tigers. It was the least they deserved and was a reward for an excellent display from back to front.

FT 3-1 HYDE UNITED FC

A quality performance by a very young side, containing eight players aged 21 or under who have all progressed through the Academy.

Some excellent performances with Harry Coates winning everything at the back, Ryan Ellison showing determination to play through the pain, Chris Sutherland ripping up the wing, Sam Fitton & Pete Boyle working themselves into the ground in midfield, but MOM goes to Big Khamsuk who scored twice and showed how effective he can be in a deeper midfield roll.
