HYDE UNITED FC 2 - 2 BAMBER BRIDGE FC

Good recovery earns a point

HYDE UNITED FC 2 - 2 BAMBER BRIDGE FC

When your playing top of the league its usually important to get off to a good start, but Hyde gifted the visitors two early goals, and after 15 minutes it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon, but the 11 men of Hyde dug in, matched the league leaders and ultimately got their reward.

Hyde started well in a 3-5-2, and looked the brighter of the two teams, but were undone on 4 minutes when two missed tackles allowed the wide man for Bamber Bridge to fire in a decent cross which was finished off by Sam Livesey from four yards out. 5 minutes later and the visitors double their lead when the Hyde keeper pushed a driven cross into the middle of the goal, allowing Michael Potts to calmly slot home. 2-0 was not in the game plan.

It was important Hyde got a grip of the ball and looked to get a foothold in the game. Hyde slowly began to get possession and on 19 minutes an excellent cross from Adam Thurston was met by Matt Dempsey on the edge of the six yard box with his well directed header finding the far corner of the nett. 2-1

The remaining 25 minutes of the half had Hyde on top and pushing for the second, with Bamber Bridge looking to hit them on the break.

HT 2-1 Bamber Bridge

The second half started with both teams trying to control midfield and the ball. The sides traded half chances, with Hyde edging the opening 20 minutes. Darren made changes in shape, moving to a 4-4-2, and personal, replacing the hard working Bevins and Boyle with Big and Pugh up top, and Kyle Brownhill for Adam Thurston who was excellent, but his lack of pre season was showing in his legs.

The allowed Andy Pearson to move up into midfield, and his desire to play higher up the pitch also pulled Wassi forward, and they began to get some joy winning the ball and forcing mistakes. Phil Dean and James Burke also got more joy on the ball, allowing Cadman to support the forwards, and it was a well deserved equaliser for the home side when Andy Pearson got onto the end of a ball played into the box by Burke, heading home with pace and accuracy from 12 yards. 2-2

Both teams had used up a lot of energy and the remaining 10 minutes had Hyde on top and looking for the equaliser, but the four minutes of injury time ran out without any clear cut chances and Hyde earned a well deserved share of the points

FT 2-2

The boys played a sustained period of 70 minutes where they were the better team against an excellent Bamber Bridge squad and you would hope that this is the catalyst for Darren and the boys to push on and to start to collect some serious points in the league.

The excellent work which is being done in the background will ultimately pay dividends and is clear for everyone to see, if they take the trouble to look.
