Hyde United 1 – 0 Barwell
Hyde United battled through an entertaining game to win one-nil against a talented Barwell side.
By Andrew Marshall (Non League Paper)
An early Scott Spencer strike was enough to claim the points and give the inconsistent Tigers back-to-back victories and join the visitors in mid-table.
The Tameside club have struggled at home this season, but were ahead inside four minutes, a header from deep from captain Shane Killock sent Spencer clear, Liam Castle got a touch on the strike, but the power took it in.
Later in the half, Ryan Ellison ran clear down the right, but his shot was well saved from Castle, whilst at the other end, Anthony Carney should've equalised for the Canaries after a slip from Jindrich Stanek in the home goal allowed him to steal a back pass, but he panicked on the ball and couldn't get his shot away.
Carney was again clean through minutes later following a delightful diagonal ball from 18-year-old Brady Hickey, but after rounding Stanek, he couldn't find the net.
After the break, Spencer began to terrorise the visitors' defence with several great chances. First he brilliantly lost his man down the left and squared to strike partnerLiam Davies, but he couldn't finish into the open net, before Spencer twice fired wide of the far post and twice had one-on-ones saved by Castle.
Carney and Brady both also missed chances to gain the point Barwell deserved in the second half, but the early strike proved the unlikely only goal of the game.
