Guiseley 2-0 Hyde

Hyde’s three game unbeaten run ended on Wednesday evening, away at play off chasing Guiseley as the home side won by two goals to nil.

The Tigers had the game’s first chance in the opening minute when some nice play between Pete Boyle and Luke Giverin opened up the Lions defence, but Giverin’s tame effort was easily saved by Steve Drench in the Guiseley goal.
The Tigers continued to dictate play in the opening thirty minutes, Pete Boyle should have done better with his effort in the twentieth minute. A fantastic ball from Holmes played in the striker, he turned his man inside the area. Unfortunately for Boyle though, he dragged his shot well wide of the post.
Moment later and Hyde would have taken the lead if not for a fantastic last ditch tackle from Guiseley captain Andy Holdsworth. Luke Giverin whipped in a delightful ball towards Pete Boyle, but Holdsworth flung himself at the ball and put the ball out for a corner.
Hyde continued to look good on the ball, but failed to create any real goal scoring opportunities which forced the Tigers to try from distance, with centre back Perry Ng trying his luck from thirty-five yards, but his shot went harmlessly wide.
Josh Brizell tried to drive the Tigers forward and played a fantastic twenty yard pass into the path of Boyle. He once again turned his man, but the ball was cleared away before he could get a shot away.
With just over five minutes of the first half remaining, again the Tigers went close when Kyle Brownhill went close from the edge of the box. Andy Pearson played the ball into the path of the left back, he raced past the halfway line and with no pressure from the Guiseley players he carried the ball all the way forward to the edge of the box, where he unleashed a fierce strike towards goal, which whistled past the near post.
With four minutes of the half remaining, the hosts punished the Tigers for not taking any of their chances and scored with their first effort on target.
Wayne Brooksby played a delightful through ball to Adam Boyes who was just inside the area and he calmly lifted the ball over the onrushing Ed Wilczynski in the Hyde goal.
The Tigers almost hit back immediately through Luke Giverin, he twice tried his luck from the edge of the area, his first shot was easily saved by Drench. However his second caused problems for Drench as it dipped and swerved just before it reached the goal, fortunately for the keeper he got his body behind the ball and cleared.
The Tigers came out early for the second half, and despite being a goal down, they were easily the better of the two teams and straight from kick off almost got the equaliser they deserved.
Connor Hughes beat his man out on the left, he crossed for Boyle inside the area. However his header crashed against the top of the bar and went for a goal kick.
Moments later and the referee blew for a foul by Pearson just inside the Hyde half which seemed to be very harsh, and ultimately cost the Tigers another goal as the visitors made it 2-0 with their second shot on target.
The ball was played into the box and after the Tigers failed to clear Boyes rifled the ball into the back of the net to get his and Guiseleys second and ultimately put the game to bed.
The Tigers continued to look comfortable in possession but could not find that killer pass needed to unlock a stern Guiseley defence.
