Girls win away

GREAT BRITISH JEWISH GIRLS U18s 1 v 2 TAMESIDE UNITED LFC U17s

A fantastic performance by the girls this morning against an older team.

2-1 and played really really well!

We used the opportunity to try some new systems/formations which they adapted to showing their desire to learn and improve. Development is the key and this group are doing that every week.

MATCH DETAILS & REPORT

Tameside United Girls were invited to play a friendly today against Maccabi Great Britain U18s Girls, who were made up with players from Manchester, London and other parts of the country. This was their first game as they prepare to play in the third largest sporting event in the world the Maccabia Games in Israel in July 2017.

The first half saw Maccabi show what good players they have as they pressed Tameside back, with some last ditch defending and Chloe Dunn forced into a number of fine stops throughout the half to keep us in the game. Tameside finally grew into the game as the half wore on and both teams went into the break 0-0.

HT: 0-0

The second half saw Tameside adopt a new system to combat Maccabi raiding out wide. This led to crisper passing and movement out from the back which led to Tameside’s opening goal. The ball was moved around the oppositions box and found Sarah Clegg in half a yard of space who coolly dispatched the ball in the far left corner. Maccabi strived for an equaliser and were rewarded with a great move from a free kick that was volleyed into the net giving Chloe no chance. Tameside to their credit didn’t panic and continued to work the ball forward and they got their reward from a free kick outside the box which Ashleigh floated in over their keeper. Maccabi pushed for an equaliser but couldn’t find a way through Tameside’s well disciplined system securing a 2-1 victory at the final whistle.

A great game to watch again with a competitive spirit and fairness shown throughout and we wish Maccabi GB all the very best when they compete in Israel.

A good workout for the team today with a number of performances catching the eye, but Phoebe Mellor secured the player of the match award adapting to a brand new defensive midfield role, reading the game and bringing robustness and a competitive edge and which secured our victory today.

Well done all

Sara and Ashleigh with the goals
