Great game of high quality attacking football

This was a very entertaining game of football played by two teams with good technical ability, desire and lots of quality

Longford had good pace up front through their number 12 and a fantastic level of technical ability in their number 16 who was mesmerising from start to finish.

Tameside started the game off well, controlling the majority of the possession and looking to build attacks through their midfield. Tameside were playing a high line which was their undoing when Longford broke with pace rounding the keeper and striking a goal bound shot, which was brilliantly cleared off the line, but the ball was fired home at the second attempt. 1-0 Longford

Tameside reacted well and scored a fantastic goal. Playing out from the back, the ball was played in field from the right back position, through midfield and out to the left wing where Amy Ellis wood beat two players driving forward, before playing a driven cross in field where it was picked up on the edge of the box and the left footed cross fired home from 6 yards by Phoebe-Jo Mellor. 1-1

Tameside where then opened up twice with pace from the number 12 and five minutes later by the number 16 and they found themselves 3-1 down in a game where they were in control of the ball. The girls though are made of strong stuff and they rolled up their sleeves and continued to play pulling two excellent goals back before the break.

HT 3-3

The second half was much tighter following half time team talks. A couple of changes from Tameside, man marking the number 16 and adding some pace to the centre of defence negated the Longford threat up front, and allowed Tameside to play more possession football.

Midway through the half Tameside crafted another fantastic team goal, playing through midfield before releasing a great ball into the box which was played square across the 6 yard box before being fired home. 4-4 Tameside

The remaining 20 minutes had Tameside on the front foot, creating several half chances, but as legs tired into the final 5 minutes, the 16 for Longford again got on the ball and rounded off a fantastic performance with a goal which Lionel Messi would have been proud of, picking the ball up 40 yards out before beating five players and calmly sliding the ball past the Tameside keeper.

FT 4-4

Everyone should take the time to come down to watch the girls on a Saturday morning, because this is high quality football from a fantastic group of players who are learning and developing every week. They should all be very proud of themselves.
