HYDE UNITED 3 FARSLEY
CELTIC 1 LGE
att. 264
The Tigers produced another all action display and eventually came out on top against a battling Farsley at Ewen Fields on Monday night and even had the luxury of missing a penalty.
Neil Tolson had few selection options and had to patch up the walking wounded, but his team performed well despite the added loss of Neil Fitzhenry at the break.
Both teams started brightly but it was Hyde who took the lead on thirty two minutes in somewhat bizarre circumstances. Curtis Aspden inexplicably picked up a clear back pass and the Tigers were awarded a free kick fifteen yards from goal. Chris Simm’s shot was deflected to
Daniel Douglas Pringle
who prodded home from three yards.
Farsley were struggling with the pace of Simm and Douglas Pringle up front and it was the irrepressible Simm who set up
Nicky Clee
to head home Hyde’s second on 69 minutes. It should now have been plain sailing but
Jake Speight pulled a goal back within three minutes to set up a potential tense finish.
However the goal of the game secured victory with seven minutes remaining when a flowing move ended when Adam Oakes crossed for
Simm to slide in Hyde’s third.
Lee Rick was brought down in the area with three minutes left but for once Simm failed to convert the penalty as Aspden produced a good save and deflected the rebound for a corner.
All in all a competent performance from the injury ravaged Tigers with some excellent personal contributions, especially from Chris Cooke after his return from injury.
