Tameside United LFC 10 v 0 Bury Ladies FC
Tameside United Ladies continued their good run of form from their first home game of the season this time with a win against Bury FC.
After a slow opening quarter the girls went through the gears when Nicole Denton once again tormenting the opposing defence and opened the scoring with a firm finish. This was soon followed with a tremendous half volley finish by Emily Taggart. Soon after Taggart once again found space inside the opposition box to hit her second. With the pressure mounting Phoebe Mellor popped up from midfield to record her first of the season with a powerful shot. As the half came to a close Denton’s ruthless streak continued with another well taken goal to give the girls a 5-0 half time lead despite some carelessness in the team in the opening period causing slight concern.
The second half saw much of the same, with the ball retention under par and a number of excellent set piece deliveries not being met. However, Taggart once again found the net with a strong looping finish, this was soon followed another goal from Taggart, then Denton for her fourth and Mellor’s second with probably the best move of the match with some decisive passing from front to back with a smart finish from a good cut back. Denton finished the scoring with her fourth of the game to wrap things up against a brave and gallant Bury.
A clean sheet thanks again to Beth Taylors good handling and communication and dogged defending with goals galore but a lack of intensity and lack of sustained possession in periods of the game were identified as the team continue to look improve ready for the challenges ahead.
Jade Russell impressed at left back throughout, but player of the match went to Emily Taggart, not only for her four goals but her intelligent running and work rate throughout.
