The best way to keep up to date with Hyde United Football Club

10 months ago By Mark Worthington

Late equaliser gives Rams a share of the points.

Hyde were good without being outstanding, and had enough possession to have walked away with all three points. Ramsbottom have made a solid start to this years league campaign, adding some quality to their squad from back to front.

Hyde started well, and looked a threat down the flanks in the opening 15 minutes with Chris Sutherland and Luke Porritt testing ex tigers Kyle Brownhill and Sam Heathcote, playing at fullback for Ramsbottom.

After 20 minutes the outstanding Porritt picked up a knock and was replaced by Karl Jones. Although the Tigers controlled the majority of the good possession and had six shots to Ramsbottoms one in the opening period, the game never really got going with any flowing football due to a very overly involved referee who blew for anything and everything.

HT 0-0

Hyde were out early for the second half and certainly looked the more intent on forcing a positive result. Excellent defensive play, and an outstanding midfield display from Jack Stockdill had them on the front foot with a good balance to the play.

With 85 minutes gone, a Kyle Harrison throw into the box from the right hand touch line found Karl Jones who held off his man on the edge of the 6 yard box, before the talented forward turned sharply, firing home to give the Tigers the edge.

At full time the board was raised to show 5 minutes of additional time, and the Tigers looked to shepherd the game home, but the Rams were not ready to be sheared of the points, and with 60 seconds remaining Tolani Omotola grabbed hold of a bouncing ball on the edge of the box and lashed it home with an excellent strike, to grab his first goal for the club and a share of the points for the Rams.

FT 1-1

Not the result the Tigers hoped for at the start of the day, but the draw extends the squads unbeaten run to 13 games, and sets them up for the derby against Glossop away on Monday.

Darren has a couple of player injurys to worry about, but with the strength in the squad it gives players the opportunity to step in and stake their claim to a starting spot.
