AFC BLACKPOOL 0-2 HYDE UNITED FC

Brown & Boyle scored a goal each in either half to see the Tigers safely home in this competitive fixture which was no stroll along the promenade.

Hyde set up in a 5-4-1 against an energetic Blackpool side who worked extremely hard in the opening 20 minutes closing down and denying space to a Tigers formation which was a little unsure of how to move the ball through the middle third. The lack of genuine attacking intent from the Hyde fullbacks meant that striker David Brown was a little exposed, and looking to run in behind, but through balls in the air were easily dealt with but the Blackpool defence.

20 minutes in and the pace of the Blackpool closing slowed down to allow the Tigers to start to play some football, and they were able to play a bit more progressively and created several good half chances with the best falling to Brown on 30 minutes when he chose to try to flick the ball past the outrushing Blackpool keeper, when a strong shot which his left would probably have given him a goal.

Three minutes later he put this right, running on to a through ball from Karl Jones, before opening his body up to fire the ball to the right of the keeper and into the left hand side of the Blackpool goal.

HT 1-0 Hyde United FC

Darren made one change at half time, with the excellent Tyrone Gay replaced by a forward and Hyde reverted to a 4-4-1-1 which helped the balance of the side, and allowed them to take control of midfield.

The game remained extremely competitive, with neither side asking for or giving any room, but Hyde looked more assured and fitter than their orange opponents and with seven changes on 60 minutes they also had the legs. Luke Porritt has boundless energy, and a desire to play forward when on the ball, and with Chris Sutherland making a welcome return after injury to take up the right hand side of the attack, Blackpool were stretched and having to take risks to play out from the back. Luke read this and intercepted a pass, just inside the Blackpool half before driving forward, beating two defenders and standing a fantastic cross up from the byline which cleared the keeper and gave Pete Boyle the chance to head home from 4 yards taking his pre season goals tally to 5 in 5.

FT 0-2 HYDE UNITED FC

With the back five/four welcoming back Paddy Miller after a week out and Kyle Harrison in for his first game of pre season, all the defenders looked very assured and were rewarded with a deserved clean sheet. Still work to do understanding rolls in the middle of the pitch, and we definitely missed the excellence of Janni Lipka who is away on holiday, but our attacking flare/pace is exciting to see, and we are another game fitter and sharper.

BIG thank you to AFC Blackpool for arranging the game, and good luck for the season ahead.
