Hyde make "Hey" while the sun shines

A trip to Skelmersdale, on the outskirts of Merseyside, is usually a stern test especially when they have been roundly beaten earlier in the week by another Manchester team, but a confident Hyde side controlled the game and ultimately got the reward they deserved for their efforts.

The opening 30 minutes was hard work for the players and supporters. Skelmersdale defended deep, denying space to Hyde and looking to hit the Tigers on the break. The ball was out of play for as long as it was in, and it was only the final 15 of the half when Hyde were able to take advantage of the spaces that opened up, and camped in the Skelmersdale half without creating any clear cut chances or forcing the Skelmersdale keeper into any saves.

HT 0-0

The second half was more entertaining. Hyde were sharper with their passing, playing forward quickly and managing to involve Chris Sutherland and Luke Porritt in the play. It was this which unlocked the play, a good period of possession and Hyde moved the ball down the right wing before a ball in behind was held up by Tom Pratt before playing a perfectly weighted pass back to Big Khamsuk on the edge of the box, allowing the Hyde number 10 to pass the ball at pace inside the left hand post to open the scoring. 1-0 Hyde.

Five minutes later and a late tackle on Khamsuk had the referee reaching for his pocket for a second yellow meaning the Skelmersdale left back had to leave the field. Paddy Miller rifled the free kick around the wall and just outside the right hand post.

Skelmersdale kept two forwards on the field and looked to miss out midfield playing forward quickly, but with the clock running down, a ball forward was cut out by the outstanding Harry Coates who played a pass to Janni Lipka, who looked up and switched out to Chris Sutherland who took it down, cutting inside his man and laying the ball across the box for Luke Porritt to run on to and smash a right footed shot across the keeper and into the inside of the left hand side of the Skelmersdale goal. 2-0 Hyde

With 5 minutes remaining Tyrone Gay and Karl Jones replaced Matthew Beadle and Luke Porritt and the Tigers managed the game through to the final whistle.

The Tigers retained their undefeated start to the season with a clean sheet and two goals and moved up to 5th place.

An excellent display, although it is clear there is a lot more to come from this exciting squad. With a defence which doesn't like to concede, we will always be in games and once the forward line fully clicks we will be a real force.
