Ladies enjoy open aged debut

Tameside United LFC v Moston Brook LFC

Tameside United Ladies started the season with an away game to Moston Brook on Sunday. The girls made a bright start with the high tempo forcing Moston onto the back foot. The high work rate was rewarded with Nicole Denton firing home a low shot to give Tameside the lead after some neat interchanges the around the box.

More hard work followed and Tameside were rewarded with two more goals from Dominika with a crisp finish, then Isabel Prince whipped an inch perfect cross for Becky Lilley to score a sumptuous half volley past the Moston Keeper to put the girls into a 3-0 lead at half time.

HT 0-3 Tameside

The second half saw Moston try to come back into the game firing a number of long range efforts at Beth Taylor in goal who’s handling throughout was impeccable. Tameside broke away again and a bouncing ball allowed a brave Lilley to head past the onrushing keeper to record her second goal of the game and cap a player of the match performance.
The fourth goal didn’t have the desired effect though as Moston raised their game and Tameside allowed indecision and nervousness to creep in allowing the oppositions midfield time to hit a number of long passes catching the back four unawares, the pressure finally told with Tameside being undone with two such balls to bring the game to 4-2. Moston pushed a number of players forward in the remaining minutes but the girls competed and saw the game out to record their first ever open age win.

FT 2-4 Tameside

A great game to start with against a very good side, plenty of progress made and some lessons to be learned ready for the challenges ahead in this league. Also a good opportunity to give the squad game time and opportunities to impress.

Player of the match, was a difficult decision with Bryony Harper and Nicole Denton having massive influences on the game but Rebecca Lilley sealed it with two goals and a phenomenal work rate throughout.
