Performance level drops of a RadCLIFF

RADCLIFFE BOROUGH 4 - 0 HYDE UNTIED FC

There is no dressing this up as anything other than a bad performance. To many players not at the races and a Radcliffe side who set up to play with four pacy players up front with the ball delivered quickly into the Hyde defensive third for them to feed off.

Darren had to shuffle the pack with Burke unavailable through suspension, Pilkington still injured, Pearson working away in Boston, Ellison with a broken toe, as well as Thurston and Wassi both unavailable, meaning a recall for Sam Fitton in at rightback, Cadman into midfield and a start on the left for Branker.

The opening 15 minutes were frantic. Hyde in a 4-3-3 and Radcliffe in a 4-2-4. Hyde dropped 10 yards after the speed of the opening attack, and Radcliffe stepped up to play in the space this created. The opening goal came with a quick counter attack releasing a driving run down the left, with the ball played instantly across the box where Brownhill had been left two against one, and it was a simple sidefoot home. 1-0 Radcliffe. The second came in a similar fashion, and Hyde were undone and 2-0 down.

Hyde managed to get some time on the ball, but all to often they wanted the extra touch, and Radcliffe hunted in packs and denied time and space.

HT 2-0

It was important for Hyde to get the early goal, and to look to do things quicker. This was not a night for sexy passing football, but Radcliffe continued to work hard and on 55 minutes, they picked up a ball in the right channel, again finding an overload against Brownhill, and the pace and immediacy of the cross resulted in another side foot from 5 yards from the only Radcliffe player in the box.

10 minutes later and Radcliffe completed the scoring with another break away goal.

FT 4-0 RADCLIFFE

After two wins and a battling draw on Saturday away to Ossett in the previous three games, this performance came as a bit of a shock. The boys will not have much time to reflect before they face a tougher test against a decent Farsley side away on Saturday where they will need to show much more teamwork, organisation and fight if they are to get anything from the game.

We should also congratulate Radcliffe on their set up, and delivery of a clear plan. Turn Hyde, deliver quickly and press with pace as a team. It is a simple but highly effective style of play when it is done well, which it was tonight

The one positive from the evening was the first team debut of Academy Youth team captain Sam Leadbetter who came on for the last 10 minutes.
